Theory Test & Drivers CPC

Unless you already hold a Cat C or Cat D licence you will need to pass the theory test.

This is split into 2 sections

1 multiple choice
2 hazard perception

Both tests can be booked separately and you can sit the theory tests at test centres around the country

If you find the prospect of a theory test too daunting you can book a 1 day theory test course at our Leicester branch. The courses are run by Phil our Leicester branch manager, who you will find both knowledgeable and patient . Once you feel confident we can book your theory tests for you.

Drivers CPC

The Drivers CPC came into force in Sept 2008 for PCV/PSV ( CAT D ) drivers and the CPC for LGV/HGV (CATC ) drivers will come into force in Sept 09.

If you are not driving professionally e.g. a mechanic road testing a vehicle, a Drivers CPC is not required.
However if a driver does any driving which is classed as “hire and reward” a drivers CPC will be required.
Existing PCV drivers will have until 2013 to gain their Drivers CPC. This will consist of periodic training totalling 35hrs. It is recommended this training is spread over the 5 year period as 5 times 7 hours or 1 training day per year.

These same requirements will apply to all existing LGV drivers from 2009:
All new PCV drivers ( those who passed their test after Sept 2008 ) will be required to pass the drivers CPC before they can drive professionally

The drivers CPC is broken down into 4 modules
1. The existing theory/hazard perception test with no changes
2. The CPC case study test this is a computer test similar to the theory test but is based on working environment situations
3. The practical driving test no change
4. The practical CPC demonstration test This is carried out at the driving test centre and consists of showing how pre-driving checks are carried out, finding hidden contraband and stowaways.

Module 1 must be done before you can do Module 3
Module 2 must be done before you can do Module 4
Modules 3 and 4 can be done back to back on the same day in either order
